How remote methane laser leak detectors works

When working in the oil and gas sector, the landfills, or anywhere else that toxic gas leaks could occur, it’s imperative to have a reliable safety procedure to protect your employees, facility, business, and the environment.

When it comes to gas leak detection, every second counts.

Hanwei Electronics have announced the addition of the HRLD 100, a remote methane laser leak detector, to its product line. This product is designed for leak detection of methane gas in the oil and gas exploitation, transportation and refinery industry, city-gas distribution industry as well as other industries involving methane gas.

The working principle of this methane gas leak detector is based on a pulsed beam from a diode laser, which is directed at the location or area to be inspected. When the laser beam passes through a methane gas cloud (leak), the laser light will be absorbed and the resulting deformation of the signal is proportional to the concentration of methane along the measuring path.
